Education:

B.S. in Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, 2015

Biography:

Kathryn is a second year Biomedical Engineering (BME) Master’s student at Georgia Tech. She completed her undergraduate degree in at Georgia Tech, working under Dr. Philip Santangelo on single-molecule sensitive fluorescent labeling of mRNA which allowed the study of mRNA internalization and localization. She loves GT football, being outdoors, sailing, eating great food, and listening to live music.

Research Project:

Biological Janus Particles

The goal of this project is to develop both bi- and trifunctional microparticles, called Janus and Cerberus particles, respectively. These particles have unique properties and biological activity which interact with cells through proteins functionalized on the surface. Density and spatial segregation of the proteins are being investigated to optimize the Janus particle-cell interaction.
